Meditatie en uitwisseling in "de Schatkamer"
Maandag 18 augustus, 2025 (English below)
Dierbare Sangha,
Warme groeten
Hans

Meditation and sharing in "de Schatkamer" this Monday evening.
Dear Sangha,
yesterday evening I found a photo of a dear friend who died long time ago. Almost 20 years.
A warm memory entered my mind:
It was a normal late afternoon in the apartment. The sun was low and she had made tea. The light fell on het piano and I asked in an impulse: " Do you get to play lately?" Without words, she sat down and filled the room with a dreamy, melodic flow of chords. The uniqueness of that moment could be sensed immediately. I never heard her play before. When she stopped and closed the lid, I asked her what she just played. "Oh, nothing, just improvisation"
In that improvisation many things came together, the years and hours of practice. The sound and the tuning of the piano, the acoustics of the room, the relaxed and lazy atmosphere of that afternoon. And her surrender to the moment. I never asked her what was in her mind when she played, but most probably nothing specific.
Everything that manifests depends on causes and conditions. The present moment is made out of all causes and conditions of the past. Our ancestors, the formation of the earth, the seasons, the plants and animals. Also the future is made of causes and conditions.
This summer Cuong Lu made us aware of a misconception caused by our language. When we say that the future is coming, it is not like a person that will come to visit us. The person already exists, but has not yet reached our front door.
The future is completely different, the future does not exist at all. It will be formed by our thoughts, our actions and all other (external) circumstances. The future will be formed.
How am I present in this world and how is the world present in me.
The present moment does not exist on its own, the past is not gone and the future is embedded in our presence. When you try to separate or isolate those three, you are doing something impossible.
When we accept that a human is porous and temporary, that boundaries (in time and space) are an illusion, there is nothing too cling to and there is nothing to cling with.
We are new and different in every moment. Those two persons in that apartment 20 years ago do no longer exist.
Life becomes with that a wondrous gift. A precious and unique present. You and I are a unique wonder. We have the opportunity to live without separation, with gratitude and compassion.
Stopping of clinging, of inner struggle opens your heart and gives space for connectedness.
Coming home to the silence that is already in you, to the connectedness that is already there.
This Monday evening we will meditate and share together.
I wish us a wonderful weekend , full of connectedness and compassion.
Warm regards
Hans
