Dear friends,
Last month I’ve bought a new Buddha statue. When I looked at the shelves there was no doubt. There was a feeling of recognition when I looked at this wooden Buddha.
This feeling of recognition returns when I look at it just before I close my eyes to listen to the sound of the bell and I return to my breath and notice thoughts and emotions that arise and sometimes leave voluntary. Sometimes I feel myself sinking in silence. Almost without a sense of time, being nowhere. Relaxation. There is just very soft breathing, without special awareness
The sound of the bell tells me it is time to return. Awareness of my body, the muscles of my legs. Slowly I open my eyes and there is, right in front of me, the Buddha statue. A glimpse of a surprise: ‘he, you are still here’. Together with that touch of recognition.
Je don’t have to work hard to be enlightened. You are already enlightened. It is a matter of awakening. We bring our hands together and greet the Buddha nature that is in every one of us at the end of the evening. Our words, our need for concepts, perhaps also our western culture with an underlying thought of imperfection hinders our awareness.
So, I invite you to join our Sangha, from your own home, to practice a meditation of ‘natural awareness’. An encounter with the awareness you already are. The Buddha is in you, you are a Buddha, there is no need to look outside. Resting in silent awareness. I invite you to practice this at our Sangha Zoom meeting this Thursday evening I wish you a beautiful day with open awareness.
Warm greetings, Joost |
