Come home and heal - Thuis heel worden
Dear Sangha friends, beste Sangha vrienden (Dutch below)
When you leave your house unattended it will show the signs of neglect. Dust and dirt will accumulate and cobwebs will grow. Maybe the roof will leak or the walls will crack. The safe place of comfort does not feel right any more. That is why a little TLC, tender love and care, will make your house a home.
Last week we learned from Zen Master Tang Hoi (3rd century CE) that through mindful breathing we can stop and come home. He has shown us 6 practices : Returning to the breath, Counting the breath, Following the breath, Stop and focus, Deep looking (vipassena) , Purifying (thoughts and habits).
Thich Nhat Hanh has invited us to become still and listen to what is going on in us and around us, to switch-off the cacophony and have a gentle conversation with our pain, our anger, our fear and our joy.
Taking care of our body and mind will make your house a home. A home where you can come home to to rest and heal. In our mind all kinds of seeds are sown, through watering and ripening, these seeds grow into habits. You can be the gardener of your mind where beautiful flowers and fruit trees can grow.
Both Thich Nhat Hanh and Tang Hoi tell us lovingly and with compassion that it all starts with the willingness to stop, become still and look with open eyes, open mind and open heart. Mindfulness and compassion will help clean your home.
Monday we will have our evening of mindfulness in 'de schatkamer' Mimosaplein 2 Eindhoven.
With warm regards,

Hans
