Het leven ontdekken - Discover life

Het leven ontdekken
Discover life

Kerst meditatie 24 December 2023
Christmas meditation 2023   (English below)

Dierbare vrienden
"When icy winter comes it is unforgiving for everything, young, tender and insecure.
One must grow beyond youthful uncertainty to survive. Maturity and determination are necessary.
Seeing the courageous, solid way that trees prepare for winter
helps me appreciate the lessons I have learned."
"We must be like the trees.
We must dispel all our indifference and uncertainty and
be ready to face the storm."
" Do not say that when spring is gone,
that there are no more flowers left.
Just last night, in the front yard,
a plum branch bloomed in the middle of winter"

Warme groeten
Hans

Discover life.

Dear friends,
In his book "Fragrant palm leaves", Thich Nhat Hanh writes about is feelings and insight when he sees the baren trees in the snow on the university campus of Princeton (December 21nd, 1962):
"When icy winter comes it is unforgiving for everything, young, tender and insecure.
One must grow beyond youthful uncertainty to survive. Maturity and determination are necessary.
Seeing the courageous, solid way that trees prepare for winter
helps me appreciate the lessons I have learned."
His thoughts are with the people of Vietnam, there is an oppressive regime and there is a war raging in the country.
Despite the circumstances he has confidence:
"We must be like the trees.
We must dispel all our indifference and uncertainty and
be ready to face the storm."
Somewhat further he cites an ancient Zen master:
" Do not say that when spring is gone,
that there are no more flowers left.
Just last night, in the front yard,
a plum branch bloomed in the middle of winter"

We are invited to discover life in us and in the people around us. We are invited to feel the connectedness with compassion, insight and confidence.
Every human being has the capacity to wake up and be the light, including you and me.

With Christmas, the birth of Jesus of Nazareth is celebrated, according the testimonies he was during his life the embodiment of compassion, love and righteousness.

We wish you wonderful days of connectedness and confidence,
Warm greetings,
Hans
