Ksanti. Patience of the heart.
Meditation and sharing in "de Schatkamer" this Monday evening.
Meditation and sharing in "de Schatkamer" this Monday evening.
Dear Sangha,
Some situations feel like they cut you through your soul. They feel like a stab in the heart. We call them unbearable.
A friend who is ill, a loved one that suffers. Or when something happens to your child. The incomprehensible cruelty and criminal behavior around us.
How to deal with that? How can we live with that?
The Dharma brings us a number of entrances.
In the moment of enlightenment, the Buddha realized something that became the first noble truth: There is suffering. The world, the reality is that there is sickness, old age and death. This cannot be avoided.
Also in the west numerous sayings on this are in use.
The Dharma teaches also us that a situation occurs when the conditions are sufficient. When conditions are no longer sufficient the situation changes.
Like the lamp, when there is oil, a wick, a starting flame and oxygen, the lamp will give light. If one of those conditions is not there the flame will not be there.
This helps us to become free when we cannot change the conditions. And help us to recognize the things we can do.
A saying by Francis of Assisi is:
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and wisdom to know the difference.
One of the six Paramita's (six wisdoms) is Ksanti, this can be translated as patience, but also as forbearance and also as forgiving.
When you cannot change the circumstances or the conditions, patience or forbearance is a wise step.
Bearing the unbearable.
We do what we can as human beings. Not looking away, present when we can change the conditions. Being with someone with compassion and solidarity is immeasurable.
Ksanti is a step towards inner peace. Stopping of inner struggle opens your heart and gives space for connectedness.
Coming home to the silence that is already in you, to the connectedness that is already there.
This Monday evening we will meditate and share together.
I wish us a wonderful weekend , full of connectedness and compassion.
Warm regards
Hans
